Feb 2010 – June 2013

Freelance Ecologist
Self employed ecological consultant combining professional contract work with contributions to research and conservation projects.

Work carried out includes:

Leading great crested newt and reptile translocation for Froglife Ltd.
Providing ecological reports under the Code for Sustainable Homes for a private client
Working under contract to Arup including protected species surveys and licence applications and providing an on site ecological presence for several developments including work at the Olympic Park in Stratford.
Conducting Ecological Appraisals for small to medium wind turbines
Habitat suitability assessment for reptiles.

Feb 2005 to Feb 2010

Jacobs, Ecologist, UK
Ecologist in a large multidisciplinary consultancy, work delivered included
Lead Ecologist for the development of new facilities at Belmarsh Prison, coordinating both surveys and the production of an ecological management plan including the provision of new habitat designed for water voles.
Ecological field surveys on a number of high profile road schemes including the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, Replacement Forth Crossing, A465 Heads of the Valleys Road at Clydach Gorge, M4 Cardiff Gate widening and A470 Cwmbach to Newbridge on Wye scheme.
Produced ecological impact assessment for otters on the River Wye Special Area of Conservation in relation to the A470 Cwmbach to Newbridge on Wye and contributed to appropriate assessment and ecological mitigation including application for a licence under the Conservation Regulations.
Advised on Environment Agency schemes including flood defences in north Wales and obtained a licence to disturb an otter resting site under the Conservation Regulations.
Acted as ecological advisor to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead dealing with the interaction of ecological issues with planning policy.

During sabbatical from Jacobs, worked in Cusuco National Park, Honduras surveying cloud forest and disturbed habitats in the park buffer zone including large and small mammal surveys and data entry

Responsible for managing ecological protection on construction sites as part of a major sewage pipeline development. This involved Organising and conducting slow worm translocation programming site clearance and conducting watching briefs
